Silsden All Stars was set up as "Silsden Majorettes" in 1991 as a side show for the Town Band. We had pieces of cane for batons, sweatshirts and skirts for uniform and an aerobics teacher as a trainer. It’s only when we think back to those days that we can realise how far we have come.

When it was recognised by a few parents that things weren’t really going that well they decided to step in and try to improve things. We broke from the Town Band and persuaded a troupe from Cleckheaton to come to practice and show us the ropes. They taught us some basic moves, gave us contacts to buy batons and showed us what being a majorette was all about. We set up a committee, and Barbara Szuszko (one of the Mums) learnt to twirl alongside the members and was established as trainer.

We got some equipment and a uniform and put a routine together. We attended local galas and did displays around nursing homes and garden parties throughout the summer. We also began attending competitions and that was when we really learned what our aims were

We worked hard to improve and eventually the day came when we beat the troupe from Cleckheaton that had helped us find our feet (that didn’t go down too well with them). It took a few years of hard work before we became really successful, but eventually we started to win competitions, including the U.K Championships, and we became a force to be reckoned with.

In the year 2000 we left the majorette association we were with (MANECCO) as competition had become too easy, and we joined the Premier Dance Association. The standard of competition with the PDA is very high, but we have seen success. Competing against troupes better than ourselves has proved to be invaluable, as it is this that makes us progress and improve.

We became Silsden All Stars in 2004, and today we are run by a committee of four long serving members of the troupe, all of whom still compete in the Senior team.
